Niggerdom - 1984 essays
Niggerdom - 1984 essays If ignorance is bliss, then our public school system should be doing a back flip while singing God Bless America. Education is the second largest expenditure in the US, yet we rank below many nations who dont even come close to equaling our budgeted allowance. For some reason I am not a fan of the public schools of today. Its not that there isnt enough funding or that the class sizes are too small. There is an overall lack of other more important issues. Were going to briefly look over the ways that KIDS are losing accountability, how education is proctored to standardized testing, and how scapegoats are taking the blame for substandard learning platforms. Standardized testing is common everywhere. Our system is based on tests that are given to students. That is the only way that we, as a nation, can tabulate how our educational system is working. Some concerns have been about the racially biasness of these tests. Many strongly disbelieve this to be true. A more serious, and overlooked, concern should be the reliability of the scores. Just as in voting, fraud is always present. Often teachers cater to the tests in order to increase their own standing, as seen in the Texas educational system and with SAT/ACT tests. Lets get into the second issue, shall we? Scapegoats are constantly being blamed for the poor performance of students. If there is ever a downfall in the standardized tests scores, there follows an ever-present need for blame. Its our classes. Its our funding. Its the fact that people in Afghanistan are growing poppy for heroine. The newspapers are full of excuses that are being shoveled to the American people. The populations as a whole looks at the previously mentioned tests and is outraged that we could be beaten by, gasp, the French?! Who should the blame rest on? The next section will answer that. If there is any blame to distribute, to who ...

Buchanan, An Ethic for Health Promotion: Rethinking the Sources of Human Well-Being. Oxford University Press,à 2000)In writing minutes, be clear, comprehensive, objective, and diplomatic. Do not interpret what happened; simply report it. Because meetings rarely follow the agenda perfectly, you might find it challenging to provide an accurate record of the meeting. If necessary, interrupt the discussion to request clarification.Do not record emotional exchanges between participants. Because minutes are the official record of the meeting, you want them to reflect positively on the participants and the organization.(Mike Markel, Technical Communication, 9th ed. Bedford/St. Martins, 2010)Guidelines for Writing Meeting Minutes- The recorder should be able to write the minutes in near final form as the meeting prog resses.- The minutes should focus on results and agreed-on actions. . . .- The minutes should be highly summarized, not a burden to read. Be brief; summarize outcomes and points of agreement and disagreement; dont record detailed input.- Avoid writing minutes for the purpose of informing those absent from the meeting.- Write the minutes soon after the meeting and distribute them promptly (within a day or two).(Murray Hiebert and Bruce Klatt, The Encyclopedia of Leadership: A Practical Guide to Popular Leadership. McGraw-Hill, 2001) The Lighter Side of Minutes Russell Stringerà Bell:à [W]hat is that?Sean Shamrockà McGinty: Robert Rules say we gotta have minutes for a meeting, right? These the minutes.Russell Stringer Bell:à [I]s you taking notes on a criminal . . . conspiracy?(Idris Elba and Richard Burton in Straight and True. The Wire, 2004)

'Critically evaluate and discuss the influence of theories and Essay
'Critically evaluate and discuss the influence of theories and concepts drawn from psychology, sociology and social policy on social work practice with a specific service user group.' - Essay Example Traditional knowledge of learning disability generally denotes chromosome deficits, poor intelligence, and other medically identified defects. Therefore, in order to resolve this issue, it is important to understand the sociological and psychological theories underpinning social work practice with children with learning disabilities (Parrish, 2009). This essay also includes a critical evaluation of the relevant current social policy context and direction. The most accurate definition of learning disabilities is as follows: ââ¬Å"a variety of disorders that affect the acquisition, retention, understanding, organisation and/or use of verbal and non-verbal informationâ⬠(Georgas, 2003, p. 16). Although learning disabilities are believed to be acquired or hereditary, development of the disability affects a personââ¬â¢s social performance, relationships, family life, and emotional wellbeing. There is also an increasing awareness of the effect of socio-cultural aspects on childrenââ¬â¢s learning difficulties and styles, consequently changing the perception, assessment, and treatment of learning disabilities. Learning disabilities may work together with emotional, social, and environmental forces to impair the process of personality growth. Children with learning disabilities are prone to experience weak motivation, anxiety, and depression, and to have poor self-confidence (Burke, 2008). They usually display poor interpersonal a bilities leading to social exclusion. According to Howe (2009), this vulnerable population is predisposed to antisocial behaviour, both as offenders and victims. Children in special education are especially prone to aggression, both as aggressors and victims. Numerous difficulties encountered by children with learning disabilities persist into later life. The family of a child with learning disabilities may either be helpful or harmful, which may rely

The 2007-2009 Financial Crisis - Essay Example The study by the international monetary fund (IMF) indicated that macroeconomic policies, balance sheet fragilities, and financial boom were some of other greater contributors to the crisis. The macroeconomic causes of the financial crisis were in terms of low inflation and low rates because the previous years were characterized by high degree of macroeconomic stability which was seen as unusual (Kolb, 2010). This was as a result of the opening of communist countries to world trade which leads to low labor cost to the world economy. The role of credit rating agencies in the 2007-2009 financial crisis was their failure to fully evaluate and understand the risks of introduced complex products. This is because the credit rating agencies role was to serve as gatekeepers in the global credit market. Their monitoring and issuance of debts and other securities issued by governments cooperate they were to exercise influence over access to the capital market and terms of pricing on which borro wers receive credit (Hemraj, 2015). There were contributions by government policies which lowered credit control where government policy was focused on home ownership. This led to increase in sub-prime mortgage lending which turned to be the root of crisis later. There were education and implementation of programs to encourage home ownership by low-income and minority citizens and there was an encouragement by real estate and mortgage institutions to increase rates of minoritiesââ¬â¢ homeownership.

Another example for an internal customer; a customer calls on the call center to ask about his credit balance, the customer service agent calls the credit department to assist him to pass on the information to the end customer. And lastly, we have end users customer, business to business; which is a business that emphasis on marketing and selling products and services to other companies; for example in our direct English institution, we have other institutions that request to purchase our particular education course. Dealing with different customers the org anization must priorities for each, which mainly depends on its importance and its urgency for each situation and condition. 2.2 Effective communication is important to the company and it can be improved in many ways. Each has its own advantages and disadvantage for example; Verbal Communication you can communicate with a large number of cu stomers in short time, on the other hand, customer wonââ¬â¢t be able to fully understand everything as the visual communication, and for Nonverbal Communication for example; customer has a reminder and a proof of the text which is reliable, on the other hand, some messages might be sent incorrectly and cause a large damage, Visual Communication is what customers prefer as so that they can express their emotions in better way, the disadvantage that this process takes lots of time to deal with each customer. 2.3 Effective service delivery, There are several overall points to think about when managing and planning the delivery of your services and products to be measured. There are also some particular aspects and methods that you may find helpful if you have limited time or resources. Within the framework of planning the business some aspects should be considered in order to improve the quality and the trust relationship with the community: Delivering service on time Time is limited. You cannot buy more time, but there are several things you can do to manage your time more efficiently. Plans rarely show up to be accomplished in the best way, and even the finest managers have to deal with unpredictable matters like suppliers not delivering on time, one of the employee members getting ill or trains are being delayed, equipment breaks, etc. Nevertheless, if you plan sufficiently you are more likely to deliver on time. When business starts deliver on time the business will start to be trusted and dependable, and this will attract lots of customers due to its timely delivery quality. Delivery service on a budget Planning a strategy based on a budget will enable you to identify the resources needed accurately before you start a project. Try to mark the things that may cost additional money. You should also make sure you are not forgetting anything that could end up costing you additional cost. Some practical preparation tools can be used to assist you to approximate how much resources will be needed at each stage of the process and how much will it cost and how long will it take. By then the business will start to reduce cost and be more efficient and effective in dealing the on a budget. Dealing with difficult customers First of all the one who deals with the customer needs to adjust his mindset once he/she is aware that the client is unhappy then the first priority is to have a customer service mindset. Secondly listen actively which is the most important phase of the whole dealing process is listening actively to what your client or customer is saying. Repeat the customers concerns to make sure that addressing the right issue, ask questions to make sure that youve identified the problem correctly. These matters should be considered when dealing with difficult customers, and it helps to solve future problems. Handling and resolving complaints Be Empathic and Apologize for example; I understand why youre upset. I would be too. Im very sorry that we didnt get the samples to you on time, especially since its caused these problems. And then to find or suggest the solution to his problem, if the suggested solution didnââ¬â¢t please the customer try to hear his perspective suggestion for the solution. Once you have both decided on a solution, you need to take action straight away. Explain every process to fix the problem to your customer Take Action and Follow-up to show your customer that you care. And lastly, use the Feedback from the complaints to decrease the risk of the condition happening again. References BIBLIOGRAPHY Eisenhower. (August 19, 1954). Eisenhowers Urgent/Important Principle.
